SUMMER 2019 • EASTBOURNE, WLG
Waterbourne is New Zealand’s biggest water sports festival, attracting spectators and entrants from all over New Zealand and the pacific. Whether you are wanting to enjoy the adrenaline pumping kitesurfing or take part in the paddle boarding ninja games, there is something for everyone.
With windsurfers reaching speeds of over 70km/hr and kitesurfers jumping over 30m, spectators can enjoy the live New Zealand music on the beach. Water activities finish each day at 4pm, which allows Wellingtons biggest beach party to start. With a family friendly environment and world class performers, everyone can enjoy the entertainment after a fun day on the beach.
I always had a keen interest in kite flying, and remember the rush of getting pulled down the beach during sandstorms in South Africa when I was 8 years old. I first got into kiteboarding when I was a teenager. I had read about the developing sport in magazines after moving to New Zealand.
Armie Armstrong has done it all! With experience, windsurfing, kitesurfing and paddle boarding, Armie has now started his own high quality foil brand ‘Armstrong Foils’. See what Armie has to say about his experience at Waterbourne where he not only paddle foiled, but kite foiled each day.
The Summer Days Festival was the first time the public had access to try the ‘Paddle Ninja Games’ where over 70 people attempted the ninja course! With people of all ages attempting the course, it was a day full of laughter, splashes and crashes!
Wellingtons biggest beach party is here with acts from Australia and New Zealand, including Shapeshifters lead singer P-Digsss and Australian duo Boo Seeka. After finishing an Australian summer tour, Boo Seeka is excited to be returning to New Zealand for the first time in two years.
My favourite thing about Waterbourne was meeting new people from a variety of sports. It was great to incorporate many similar sports into one competition and I think we all earns a new appreciation for what we each do!
We caught up with the 2018 Windsurfing Ocean Clash winner William Novak, as he tells us about his favourite spots to windsurf in Wellington. A hardcore wave sailor demonstrating his racing skills in windy conditions!
New Zealands beautiful coastline has so many spots to windsurf, kitesurf and paddle board, we thought we would help with some of the top locations. Whether you are looking for an event or a fun session with friends, checkout the quick guide of the best location from Auckland to Christchurch.
We decided to catch up with Chris Bolt who is not only a top New Zealand sailor, but one of the most social windsurfers in the country. See what he has to say about Wellington.
